Ways to Make your Interior Decor Stand Out
You don’t have to have a complicated design scheme to make your home impressive. A few simple tricks, along with some stunning statement pieces, can make your interior decor stand out greatly:
1. Use your own style
Don’t try to emulate a style of decorating that isn’t yours just because it’s “trendy” or “in.” You’ll be most comfortable in a home that reflects who you are and what you enjoy, making a real statement. It will show off your personality and this should be easier to achieve than trying do something that isn’t you.
2. Choose a focal point
What room/area of your house do you want to show off the most? This will probably be a common area, especially if you entertain a lot, but can also be an element of interior design, such as furniture or artwork. Focus your energy on making the focal point look its best, with everything else as an accent. For example, a dining area with stunning antique silver settings can be accented with simple candles or a luxury tablecloth.
3. Pick statement pieces
If you’re limited in space or resources, choose a few really luxurious pieces to make the biggest statement. A crystal chandelier, a large Oriental rug, a functional fireplace, or even holiday items like a tall Christmas tree can really stand out if you use them well. If you want to use wall art to make a statement, choose larger canvasses and place them where they can be easily seen from any area of the room.
4. Coordinate
You don’t have to be matchy-matchy all the time, but coordinated design schemes between rooms will help give a sense of balance and forethought to impress your guests. For example, the antique silver you use in the dining area can match silver faucets throughout the house, lace upholstery or drapes, or other even other antiques. Just a little bit of coordination will give the impression of professional planning, which will impress much more than rooms simply thrown together.
5. Don’t overdo it
As stated before, balance is essential in any design scheme. Trying to do too much will just make your decor look busy and crowded, while a balance of color, setting, and placement will look and feel natural yet distinguished. Guests will be more comfortable in a balanced atmosphere, which will stand out over any gimmicks.
No matter what you have in your home, there is always a way to make what you’ve got work and make your home look stunning!
