How to Choose an Exterior Paint Color
If you’re looking to freshen up the look of your home, repainting the exterior is a great way to do just that! However, choosing the right color scheme can seem overwhelming. Check out these quick and easy tips to help you pick the best colors for your home.

Being Bold or Playing it Safe
A monochromatic color scheme will make any home look sophisticated. Using shades and tints of a single color for walls, shutters, and trim is a guaranteed way to a good looking home. If you’re looking for something a bit more exciting, be bold with your color choices. Add a little flair to your home by mixing a few colors together. Try mixing neutrals with more saturated color for some drama. Just be careful not to go overboard on the colors, don’t use more than two or three.

Match Your Home
Be sure to keep the features of your home in mind as you select your paint colors, especially the areas that won’t be painted! Brick or fieldstone may not match every color you have in mind. If you’re not looking to replace your roof soon, the color you choose should match.
Play off the Environment
You can have a lot of fun with color depending on where you live. Home in more tropical locales can select bright, bold colors that play off of the natural surroundings. Tropical plants and flowers are often very colorful and that color can be carried into your color scheme. Let your trim and shutters make a statement with a vivid color. Homes in the Northwest can bring the colors of the forest. Deep greens and rich earthy browns look beautiful on homes in this area.
Check out the Neighbors
The neighbors can be a great source of inspiration! Take a walk around the block and check out the homes that stand out. Perhaps there’s a common color that you’re drawn to. It may also be a good idea to see if the entire neighborhood has a color scheme that maybe you didn’t notice before. If the whole block is painted with neutral colors, you might want to shy away from super bright colors. If you want your house to stand out a little more, bump up the color in your landscape by planting some bright flowers. This way your home will stick out, in a good way.

Don’t Forget
Keep in mind, that dark colors will make your home look more narrow, while lighter colors make a house look larger. Also know that glossy paints, while easy to clean can show more imperfections that flat paint. Finally, don’t rely on paint swatches! Test out the color on your home and look at it throughout the day for changes in sunlight.

In my opinion the most important thing to consider is the neighborhood. I really hate it when I see someone paint a building an absurd color. As if he did not see that all buildings are grey and white, so he decided to go with blood red and bright green … it has to fit in!
A colorful house looks cute but I still prefer simple or light colors because I want to make my house look sophisticated.
Whenever I see bright colorful houses it makes me think that the people who live there have a happy and peaceful life.
