Fall Temptations
Ah, those wonderful crisp fall days, when the air feels so clean, the sky is so blue and nature is painting the trees with a golden and bronze palette. It is a good thing that nature tempts us outdoors at this time of year with treats for the eye, because so many of the other fall temptations invite us to stay inside!

Football
One of the biggest fall temptations is of course football season. Sunday afternoons with your buddies and your favorite team wouldn’t be the same without the mandatory nachos and cheese dip, chicken wings, chili and pigs in a blanket. Getting rid of those hot dog, cheeseburger, buttered corn on the cob summer extra pounds is not going to be as easy as you thought this fall.
Chowder
Nothing goes better on a cool fall day than a nice bowl of chowder. Whether your favorite is corn, potato or seafood chowder, the only true renditions include heavy cream and lots of good bakery bread slathered with butter. Yes, you know about the recipes using low fat milk, and of course you could put margarine on your slice of whole wheat bread, but doesn’t an authentic fall day call for authentic fall food?
Sunday Dinner
As much as we enjoy those casual summer meals with friends and families, there still exist those hard core fanatics who can’t wait for summer to end and the cool weather to usher in those sit down Sunday dinners with roast meat, creamy mashed potatoes, vegetables in cream sauce and, of course, fresh apple pie for dessert. Then, of course, a good football game.
Haloween Candy
If you are like most good, careful parents, you will insist on going through your children’s Halloween treat bag before you let them eat them all. The problem with this ritual is that it usually means sampling more than a few yourself, just to make sure they are safe, of course. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our children.
Drinks
In the good old summertime, we are perfectly content and refreshed with a cold light beer, a refreshing gin and tonic or the supposedly calorie burning grapefruit and vodka. Now that the temperatures have dropped, it’s time to bring out the rich, flavorful Oktoberfest beers and the hot toddies, made with sweet, dark rum. Luckily, none of these have a calorie count on them.
To everything there is a season, and enjoying the wonderful temptations of fall is a true pleasure and blessing of life. So go ahead and indulge, but just make sure it is in moderation, and that you also indulge in that other tradition, fall exercises such as tag football, long walks and bike rides in the woods to admire the trees.
Halloween is a fun holiday for children and adults alike. Before sending your children to trick or treat, use the best background check service. You’ll only want to send them to the safest part of the neighborhood.
