Thinking about home security is something that people often put off for a variety of reasons; this is a mistake that you do not want to make. Typically, people assume that they live in an area that would not subject them to a break in. However, this is simply not the case for millions of people. No matter where you live, it is possible for someone to gain entry into your home. In fact, the rate of home invasions would be something that many law enforcement officials consider to be very concerning. It is possible for someone to simply enter your home when you are opening or closing the door, they would go undetected. It is very likely that they could get into your home or take anything that you own without having to worry about the police being called.
As a result, it is very important that you invest in the best security system that you can afford. When you have a great system in place, you would not have to worry about anyone being able to break in. In the event that a criminal attempts to get into your home, the monitoring service would contact the police right away. The biggest advantage to having an alarm system in your home would be the ability to come and go without having to worry about anyone watching. Additionally, you have the peace of mind that comes along with knowing action will be taken right away in order to stop a crime in progress. Looking for the right things in your system would be very important.
Getting the Best Matters:
- Active monitoring around the clock
- Access with your mobile phone
- Monitor your property while you are away
- Quick response time
When you have all of these things in your home security system, you would not have to worry about having the people in your home subjected to a break in. The ability to control your home automation system with a mobile application means you will never leave without having your alarm monitor your property. Mistakes happen, but you would be able to correct them with just a few taps. Additionally, you will find that these representatives are always available when you need help. In the event someone gains entry into your home, they will spring into action and contact the police right away. As a result, it is much more likely that an arrest will be made.
Great Security Makes a Difference
When you want to ensure that everyone in your home remains safe, it is important to get a great alarm system. When you have this in combination with a security fence, you would not worry about anyone attempting to come near your property. No matter where you live, it would be a mistake to assume that you are safe. Instead, you want to be active in making sure that you are doing everything possible to keep criminals away. Take action now and do not wait until it is too late.

Wood is considered as an indispensable material in the field of construction and engineering. Such fact is not about to change. Despite a number of environmental studies which adamantly pinpoints wood processing as one of the major causes of widespread ecological degradation, and the growing support to advocacies that seek to delineate solution to this concern from a public that is becoming more invested in green-driven industrial policies and methods, wood still remains essential to various industries and its usage cannot be abruptly ceased. But there is a silver lining to this issue which we can take comfort in—more and more wood processing and distribution companies are now adhering to standards and practices which take into account green ideas and solutions.
Here are five of these emerging wood processing trends:
Reusing wood waste and residue include all soft and hard woods, boxes and crates, OSB and chipboard, laminates and melamine, hardboard, pallets, sawdust, floorboards, peeler cores, plywood, and MDF, among many others. The by-products made from these recycled wood materials are limitless. From engineering materials to poultry supplies, the generated resources made possible by recycled wood truly redefine the meaning of product sustainability.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), among other groups that keenly monitors worldwide wood harvest procedures, are to be credited to the increased number of wood harvesting companies that adhere to sustainable forestry policies, as well as wood product distributors and manufacturers that require their suppliers to have done so. Some notable wood harvesting practices include the transition from actual forests to estates and plantations, and utilization of second cut smaller diameter timber as opposed to wide diameter trees.
Technological breakthroughs that allow efficient wood-based panel production are just some of the current opportunities that support forest sustainability efforts. These processing tools renders the usage of less solid wood possible, thus ensuring the much needed replenishment and growth of forest areas. Low temperature machineries are also becoming widely popular which cuts down wood processing plants’ energy consumption.
Supply Distribution Restructuring
Wood supplies that have been pre-processed in logging sites have now become a noteworthy option for wood product manufacturers. This simple alteration or restructuring of the supply chain process paves the way to reduction of transportation-related energy costs.
Going for Alternative Materials
Timber with its significantly diminishing yield due to over harvesting is one of today’s major concerns for advocates of sustainable forestry. There are many suggested alternatives to the use of solid timber or wood. One such alternative is processed bamboo which could be used to produce various engineering or construction materials such as wood panels and laminates.
Also, instead of solid wood, wood-based materials are now becoming increasingly popular. Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) and Oriented Stand Board (OSB) materials are just some of these.
These recent wood harvesting, processing, and distribution trends are reassuring for us environmental advocates who have lobbied and fought for sustainable forestry, and, environmental awareness in general. Moreover, this increasing support to environmental causes by the wood processing industry itself is truly a hopeful scenario for the rest of mankind.

Have you been looking in your bathroom lately and thought, “I really think it’s time to do a bit of upgrading”? If so, why not put in some additions that will not just be aesthetically attractive, but also eco-friendly as well. After all, the more that you do to make “green upgrades” in your home, the better it is for the environment and your wallet.
If this has piqued your interest but you’re not sure where to start when it comes to creating your “green shopping list”, we have five eco-friendly essentials for your bathroom below:
Organic washcloths and towels. If you want to “ease into” the renovations, why not start by replacing the washcloths and towels that you currently have with some that are made from organic cotton or bamboo? Not only are they extremely absorbent and pretty affordable, but they also are colored with natural dyes which can be good for sensitive skin. Plus, many of them are marketed as being “fair trade products”. This means that in the countries where they are made, people are paid fairly to produce them. You can also purchase bath mats and bathrobes in these fabrics as well.
Bathroom accessories. Although bathrooms do not tend to have as many accessories as other rooms of the house do, there are things like soap dishes and trash cans that we purchase to put in there. If you want to get some that are made from eco-friendly resources, look for items that are made out of brushed stainless steel, recycled glass and hardwood. If you want to put in a couple of storage baskets, opt for the ones made out of rattan or retreated wood.
Low-flow showerheads. Something that you may have already heard is an absolute must-have for your bathroom is a low-flow showerhead. That’s because it can actually decrease the water consumption in your house by as much as 40 percent. Plus, it can also play a significant role in lowering your water bill as well. If you’ve been hesitant about purchasing one for fear that you might lose some of your water pressure, one of the brilliant things about this particular invention is that you don’t sacrifice the power of your shower…not one bit.
Low-flow toilets. If you’re considering upgrading your toilet, two great ones are the flush up toilets or the low-flow toilets. Flush up toilets are good because if you are doing something like adding a bathroom in your basement, it actually requires less water to flush waste away. Low-flow toilets are beneficial for similar reasons. While traditional toilets tend to use somewhere between 3.5-7 gallons of water per flush, a low-flow toilet, on average, uses about 1.6 gallons per flush.
Handmade soaps and body oils. There are some pretty great body care lines that you can purchase that are made from 100 percent organic ingredients; however, did you know that you can also make things like bar soaps, bubble baths and lotions all from the comfort (and financial convenience) of your own home? There are a ton of websites online that will provide you with a myriad of recipes. Simply go to your favorite search engine and put “homemade body recipes” in the search engine.
Eventually all homes will need new roofing. It may be due to a hailstorm or a hurricane or just due to age, but when you get to the point where you need to replace your roofing you need to know what options are eco-friendly. These options also work in new homes, so when it comes time for a roof keep these options in mind:
- Recycled shingles – The fist eco-friendly roofing option is recycled shingles. These shingles can be made from a variety of ingredients like car tires, plastic bottles, or recycled wood. This is a great way to get bang for your buck while still helping the environment. The shingles are durable and indistinguishable from regular shingles. Some of the recycled shingles have up to a fifty year warranty and also come with a fire retardant that can allow you to lower your house insurance costs.
- Wood shingles –Wood shingles and shakes are common in some parts of the country but they pose a fire hazard and are not allowed everywhere. Most wood shingles are traditionally made from old growth cedar, which is wasteful. If you must go with wood try a reclaimed source. There are many companies that make wooden shingles and shakes from wood reclaimed from factories, homes and other sources. This allows you to recycle the wood and have less impact on the environment and deforestation. You may want to consider treated wood options that have a lower risk of flammability as an additional precaution.
- Garden on the roof –Have you ever thought about making your roof into part of your garden? There are many ways nowadays that you can have a thriving garden and a well insulated home all in one. Adding a layer of dirt and sod to your roof may not bet the most cost effective option, but its beauty and curb appeal and second to none. Some areas would not permit this option, but it is a great way to insulate your house also. That layer of flora and soil helps to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. What a great idea!
- Slate Tiles – Slate is a black or dark colored natural stone that is very resistant to wear and tear. Found in many locations, it is a readily accessible material that can last for centuries. Historically many homes have used slate roofing, especially for commercial building or with other stone architecture. The stones are extremely heavy, so you need to make sure your home can support the weight. Another factor to consider is that the mining process to access the stone can hurt the environment, but on the other hand it does last a lifetime. The stone can also help to insulate your home and provide protection against hail and other things that would damage a typical roof. They also have salvaged slate options to avoid the mining altogether.
- Clay Tiles –Clay tiles are used in a lot of Spanish style homes. Their distinct appearance and bright color add a pop to any house. They have to be carefully installed to prevent breakage and leakage, but after the installation they can last many years. They also have high insulation properties to help keep the house cool during the hot summer months. These clay tiles are easy to make and offer a natural alternative to many other roofing options.
- Metal Options – There are many different types of metal roofing options for your home. Thankfully most of them are from recycled or partially recycled sources. One of the great advantages of a metal roof is that it can be recycled when it is time to replace it. Metal roofs come in a variety of styles and colors, from copper to aluminum to shingle style. They even have metal roofing options that were created to look like wood shingles, so you get the wood grain look without the expense and danger of the wood. Metal roofs are great because they last a long time and are not a fire hazard. A metal roof is also great for gardeners who want to catch runoff for their plants as it does not leech any toxic chemicals. You can also easily add solar panels to a metal roof. Metal roofs are a great thing to have in cold climates as the snow does not build up and damage the roof. To keep the snow from covering walkways and porches, however, you might think about installing a snow bar or other device. Metal roofs are often among the least expensive options when you look at the longevity and also are easy to install.
- Rubber roof – Recycled car tires can also be a great roofing options for some homes. They are covered with ground slate for texture and come in a wide variety of colors. However rubber roofs are not allowed in all areas so check with your home owner’s association before selecting this option.
There are a few other things you need to consider before making your final selection. Some neighborhoods have restrictions on the color and materials that you can make your roof. You should also find out about fire codes in your area to make sure your home stays safe. If you live in a hot climate then a light colored roof is a better option for you. Some roofing options even come in white to really reflect the heat. As you replace or construct your roof remember to verify that you have sufficientnsulation to reduce energy usage and keep your home the right temperature year round. You should also become aware of the maintenance required for the roofing options. Some roofing options require periodic coatings to protect your investment and others recommend avoiding walking or placing things, like Christmas lights, on the roof.
If you are thinking about installing the roof yourself then be aware that this is not a job that can be done quickly by the inexperienced. It is better to have either an experienced roofer there to guide you or simply hire someone to install your roof. There are many creditable roofing companies that will install your new roof at a reasonable price if you shop around. Always make sure they are accredited, experienced and insured to protect yourself and your investment.
When you are thinking about roofing options make sure you know what you are really getting into. There are a wide variety of green options that can make your home both comfortable for you and eco-friendly. If you educate yourself on the pros and cons of each I am sure you can find an option that suits your lifestyle and your pocketbook.

Energy, and its increasing cost, is undoubtedly becoming a key concern for businesses. Prices are rising, along with the pressure for companies to go green. ‘Growing your own’ through renewable resources can be a great way to combat both these issues. It could cut down your reliance on external energy suppliers that can be costly in terms of both finance and environmental impact.
However, the world of renewable energy can be a daunting one, particularly with a huge variety of options available. This guide is here to inform you of your options, and could help you decide about whether to take the renewable energy leap.
This is perhaps the best known method of generating your own electricity. There is good reason for this; solar panels can be purchased in a huge array of sizes to suit both your energy generation needs and your budget.
Even a small, simple 1 kilowatt system can prevent 300 lbs. of Carbon Dioxide being released into the atmosphere every year. This is in addition to potentially saving you money!
However, as with many of the following options, whilst erecting a solar panel may seem perfectly inoffensive, check if you have permission to do so!
Another fairly commonplace source of renewable energy is wind power. You can generate electricity from wind turbines that can be installed on the ground near your property, or attached to the building itself.
People often either love or hate wind turbines, they really can split your opinion! But you may well grow to love being able to generate your own electricity in wind speeds as low as 12 kph. Furthermore, you could find that a turbine makes your office stand out a little from the crowd!
A biomass boiler allows you to generate heat and power by burning naturally-occurring fuels such as wood, straw and other ‘energy crops’. Combusting these resources may not feel like the best way to make your business greener, but a biomass boiler is still significantly better for the environment than destructive fossil fuels, and itcould be up to 50% cheaper!
If you are lucky enough to work in an area with an abundance of potential fuels, then a biomass boiler could be a super renewable energy option.
Similarly, hydro-electric power is another option that is particularly dependent on location. Unless you have access to a substantial water channel, and permission to build on this, then this may not be possible for you.
However, if you do occupy such a location, then harnessing the power of a running river can be a great way to generate power; this is after all the most effective way of generating renewable energy in the US!
Ground-source heat pumps are an extremely efficient way to channel the heat that naturally occurs below-ground. In the winter the ground can be used as a source of heat, and in the summer it can be used as a place to store it; meaning ground-source heat pumps can be used to heat and/or cool, depending on your need.
Furthermore, because the ground remains at a fairly constant temperature throughout the year, ground-source heat pumps are not reliant upon specific climate conditions or geographical features, as is the case with many other renewable energy options.
Unfortunately renewable energy systems often cost a considerable amount to install, and they can be expensive to run. However there is a lot of financial help out there, which can make these a really affordable option.
Check out the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency to see what incentives are available in your area. You never know, you may find that going green is cheaper and easier than you first thought!
Also, be sure to find out if you can sell some of the energy you generate back to the grid. The rate of credit is usually between $200 and $300 for every megawatt hour generated. There is potential to make thousands of dollars by doing this!

Landscaping and garden design plays an important role in modern homes, but too often it is forgotten about in home remodeling and design projects. There are lots of important things to consider when remodelling your garden, including landscaping, planting, and outdoor furniture selection. However, one of the most powerful ways to enhance the look and feel of your garden is through the installation of outdoor lighting.
Outdoor lighting is known by many names, including garden lighting and landscape lighting. There are lots of different products on the market, from security lights and safety lights through to fairy lights and other purely aesthetic creations. When remodelling your home, it really is important to think about what kind of lighting solution you need to make the most of your garden.
Outdoor lighting is often categorised according to how it is used. For example, there is general illumination that helps you use your garden during the night time hours. There is also task lighting to help you perform certain intensive tasks at night, such as spot lights above cooking and eating areas. Finally, there is decorative lighting, which helps to create the atmosphere and magic that everyone desires in a garden.
The type of lighting you require for your garden can only really be considered in relation to placement and overall design. Just like any kind of remodeling project, context is the key when designing garden spaces and installing garden lights. Certain kinds of illumination will be much more effective in particular parts of your garden, so it really is necessary to make an overall plan of your garden it terms of how you use it and when.
For example, well used areas of a garden such as patios and outdoor eating areas need to be well illuminated. If you plan on cooking outside, you will also need some form of task lighting such as spot lights, so that you are safe and able to get something done during the night time hours. For other areas of your garden however, low level decorative lighting is often the best and most attractive solution.
Decorative lights are meant to enhance existing garden assets and add to existing landscaping features. They are not generally installed for practical reasons, but instead are made to create a mood through light. Some of the best examples of decorative outdoor lighting include up-lights, hanging lights, path lights, and fairy lights, each of which provides a different kind of effect to an outdoor space.
When designing or decorating a garden environment, it is important to think about both practical and aesthetic matters. For example, lighting needs to be installed close to a power distribution network, and you may also need to think about things like underground power cables and proximity to watering. When it comes to aesthetic concerns, your eyes are often the best guide, but make sure you think about how things will look at all times of the day.
Outdoor lighting is one of the best ways to enhance an existing garden space, and bring out the best in your home. Not only can the right choice of lights make your garden more accessible during the night time hours, they can also make it a much more beautiful and magical place to be.
Outdoor Lighting Centre is one of the leading outdoor lighting retailers in the U.K. With a wide range of Italian lanterns and garden lighting to meet your needs, you are sure to find the products you need to create your ideal outdoor space.
Designing the new bathroom? There are plenty of essential activities which need to take place when making any washroom. The tiles, floorings to taps of the washroom come into designing. The space of the washroom and facilities desired will determine the budget of bathroom designing. A person can make the washroom user friendly by making less use of accessories which are difficult in use and expensive like the blinds and three in one tap system. All appropriate washroom accessories can be found at The Plumb Store in all styles and standard entities.
Pre planning for bathroom designing
Designing a bathroom can be a real pleasure if pre planning is done. Styling a bathroom can be a frenzy so make sure you are aware of your necessities and luxuries, else will land up in confusion and spend more.
Some essentials for decorating the bathroom can be:
The semi flooring pattern on the walls to keep it protected from water and soap/shampoo chemicals. Since, tiles occupy major wall portion, so major color in bathroom is added through tiles. There are small tiles which look very aesthetic and enhance the overall appeal of the bathroom. Then the color of the tiles matters the most. Pastel colors in ventilated bathrooms will come alive and add the pleasance, making bathroom appear more spacious. On the other hand, the bathrooms with dark colors may look closed and clustered.
Fittings like sanitary wear and wash basins are vital in any bathroom with curtains separating the spaces. The fittings add great style and functionality to the place. Every corner and aspect of bathroom comes alive if the fittings are user friendly. The fittings can include taps, wash basins, bath tubs, showers, blinds and more. There are steel and glass fittings but people choose as per budget and use in the home or other places. Plenty of fittings come colored and in semi colored patterns which look versatile in the bathroom.
This is another fundamental which needs to be considered. Floorings in bathrooms add great style quotient. The wooden floorings are not for bathrooms. The vitrified floorings are popular because it resists stains and splash of waters. The design on the floorings is expensive mostly but simple nursery print, cheques, colored, printed and semi printed floorings are in trend. The floorings make any room come agile.
Glass is important in every part of the bathroom. There are storage options in bathroom which uphold the linens, towels, napkins. The glass stains are required as separators in the bathroom and form the shelf for holding shampoos, soaps and more. Glass stains can be used for forming the windows. These are not costly and create ventilation with small light source in any bathroom.
The Plumb Store has redefined the dynamics of bathroom by making styling and designing intricate aspects of interiors today. Bathroom is the most important space of home which makes people understands the lifestyle of the residents. Perhaps, bathroom designing and styling requires thought and precision.
Green home improvements offer many advantages, including a healthier environment, sustainable heating and cooling systems, lower energy costs and a reduced carbon footprint. Successfully completing a green project requires a home improvement contractor with green building know-how and experience.
Contractors advertising “green” improvements range from knowledgeable, green-certified professionals to individuals who thought they could drum up more business by tagging “green” onto their offered services. You want the first option, but how do you identify the real deal?
Licenses and Certifications
Whether you’re hiring a green contractor or a regular old handyman, make sure he or she is licensed to work in your state. State-licensed contractors must meet requirements and qualifications set by the state.
Ask the contractor if he or she possesses any green certifications, such as The National Association of Home Builders’ Certified Green Professionals (CGP) certification. While a contractor can acquire green construction experience without certifications, making the effort to get certified suggests a real interest in green building.
Certified green contractors are more likely to possess up-to-date information about green practices. The CGP, for instance, requires at least 12 hours of continuing education every three years for certification renewal.
Remember to ask how many of the contractor’s employees have green certification. Some companies only have one person with green certification, while others insist everyone take continuing certification courses. Guess which company provides the better service?
Experience and References
Never be afraid to ask questions about a contractor’s experience and abilities. In fact, don’t consider any contractor who seems unwilling to answer such questions. How much green experience does the contractor have? Has he or she worked on similar green projects? Can the contractor produce a portfolio of green projects?
Ask for references. Call each reference and ask questions about the contractor. Were previous customers pleased with their project results? Were there any problems?
Is the Workplace Green?
A truly green contractor applies green strategies to her own office and home. Visit the office and look for evidence of green activity. For instance, a builder who uses contractor accounting software may be dedicated to a paperless office. A green contractor who doesn’t recycle should be considered very suspicious.
If a green builder applies environmentally sustainable strategies to his home or office, he should be glad to give potential customers a tour. After all, proving a commitment to sustainability helpshim secure contracts.
A Good Contractor Educates
It’s a very good sign when a potential contractor can explain green concepts to you clearly and provides reasons for green improvements. Read up on green terminology that pertains to your particular project, and ask the contractor to explain the concepts. Can she tell you how radiant barriers or tankless water heaters improve your home? If not, you might want to keep looking.

Many people enjoy keeping flowers in their gardens. Gardening is a very common pastime and hobby and has the added bonus of allowing you to get some exercise whilst also getting some ‘me time’.
One of the most commonly kept plants are rose bushes. Just as with any other flowers, roses require a lot of time, dedication and care. After all, keeping a healthy rosebush is not an easy task. One of the most daunting tasks when caring for your rosebush is the ability to prune them. It is a task which requires a lot of skill, and many people often do it wrong, which then means that the rosebush no longer looks attractive, or that the further growth of the rosebush becomes compromised.
This article aims to provide you readers with an insight to the perfect way of pruning your rosebushes in order to keep them growing and looking good, thus making your garden look good.
What exactly does pruning a rose bush mean? Pruning involves the removal of dead, withered or damaged leaves, stems, flowers, etc. It also involves cutting the rose bush at the correct locations in the correct angles in order to guide further growth in the desired location.
You will require steady hands in order to do this.
Additionally, a professional pair of pruning shears would be very advisable since they will cut the stems etc. correctly without damaging the plant itself. Using household scissors or blades is not advisable since they can be blunt and can leave a jagged finish, preventing further successful growth.
Hand shears are perfect for pruning smaller branches. Also, always wear thick gloves to avoid any injuries caused by rose thorns. Anvil shears are no good for pruning rose bushes because they will very often end up crushing the stems of the rose bush, jeopardizing the further growth of the bush. Additionally, crushing the stems will make the rose bush more prone to disease, which is extremely undesirable.
Before doing any pruning, your pruning shears need to be soaked in a mixture made up of equal parts of water and bleach. This will be advantageous to your rose bush since the bleach will protect your plants from insects or any disease that could attack your rose bush.
The first thing you should be removing is any dead wood. Dead wood can be identified by its colour. It will appear black on the outside as well as on the inside. Additionally, any wood which seems thin needs to be removed. A pencil can be used as a guide to help you determine which pieces of wood are too thin. If a piece of wood is thinner than a pencil, it needs to be removed.
All branches that cross and overlap each other need to be removed because these are most likely to become diseased, if they already aren’t.
The few dark green branches remaining are the healthy ones which should not be removed. Avoid roses which touch each other or overlap each other, since this will prevent the further growth.
When cutting roses is concerned, they need to be cut in a way which is going to keep them healthy. Cut so that the bud faces outwards. The cut should be at a 45 degree angle, ensuring that the slope goes inwards in order to guide the further growth outwards.
Following the above steps will ensure that your rose bush stays healthy and attractive, also promoting further growth thus prolonging its life and the joys you receive from it.
It may be a time for you to re-decorate your home. You might be planning to paint the walls in a different color; buy new furniture and drapes and get your home an all new look for 2013. Now, it indeed is a good idea… no worries at all! Thumbs Up! (However, better ask your husband who will be paying for all the bills… lol).
But the real worry for you may be to decide whether to go for wooden flooring or not (a worry bigger than asking for your better half’s permission). You love wood floors and are wondering if it is actually a good idea to opt for them or not. You believe that cleaning wood floors and keeping them shining always will be a challenging chore. But, this is not so. Maintaining your wooden floors is much easier than you think.
No doubt, wood floors add elegance and glamour to the overall interiors. It’s been observed in the US that homes/apartments with wooden floors sell without effort and even raise more bucks… cool!
Okay then let’s come to the point and know how you can maintain your immaculate hardwood floors.
First: Prevention is better (ALWAYS)
Remember by following a few preventive measures, you can actually get to cut down on cleaning time. Simply by keeping a welcome mat at the entrance door you can keep much of the dirt outdoors. Make sure that everybody including kids and guests keep their wet or muddy shoes outside, away from your ‘precious’ hardwood floors.
You must also make sure not to drag furniture across the wood flooring in order to avoid potential damage. Rather get some help to lift it up or use gliding pads to help smooth sliding the furniture across the floorboards.
Second: Cleaning the floor
Start with sweeping the floor with soft, fine bristled brush so that all the dirt and dust is removed prior to mopping. You can also use a vacuum cleaner with hard-wood attachment as often as you can.
Next comes mopping with a damp (preferably) microfiber cloth, which should not be soaking wet as excess water may seep into floor and damage it. In fact, if your wooden flooring has a wood grain type finish then you should wipe the floor in the same direction to bring back the lost sheen of the wooden floor.
If the need arises, you can also use wood floor cleaning products such as floor finish rejuvenator, lacquer finish cleaner, liberon cleaner for oiled floors, stain removers.
Third: Treating the floor
Waxing the floor for improving the color of the laminate has to be done next. However, it is advised not to use that too often as wax polish builds, gets a bit grubby and tends to attract dirt the more. The glossy floor may appear to be patchy and thus may ask for constant glossing. For oiled floorings, which can be distinguished by its graceful polish, regular applications of special oil mixture are required.
Fourth: Removing stains
Although you should get rid of water or wet spills immediately, rub small amount of mineral spirits on the spotted area in circular motion if there are any white spots caused by water. For stains caused by food, simply wipe them off with a damp cloth and apply a light coat of wax after drying it. Make sure to re-coat the water based stains after three hours (oil based stains have to be re-coated after eight or more hours). You could as well wipe the floor with a solution of water and white vinegar.
For all the tough and stubborn stains caused by grease, professional cleaning agents such as oil soap or adhesive floor cleanser and stain remover have to be used.
Fifth: Reviving the dull floorings
Make sure to sand and then re-coat the lackluster wood with floor refinishers or wax polish. You may avail several refinishing kits in the market.
- In high traffic areas it is advised to use fur or jute rugs and mats.
- Remove any spills right away!
- Do not use abrasives or scouring powder to clean the floors.
- Check with your installer for wax polishing the polyurethane finish floorings.
- Mere surface scratches can be touched with a stain filled marker pen.
