5 Green Ways to Decorate for Christmas
Are you sick of seeing all of the lights during Christmas because it’s the most un-green thing about the season (unless they are LED, of course)? Well, you might to spread the word about green decorating for Christmas.

#1 Ban the outlet
Yes, that’s the major problem here. But of course then you have all the other electronic sculptures that are going around and around that are powered by electricity. It’s amazing that the whole world doesn’t explode. When decorating for Christmas, just forget about the outlet. Don’t use it and buy anything and everything that doesn’t require an outlet.
Lights are usually part of the festivities, so maybe consider building an LED light display like our friend Eric Nagel from Buy Leg Lamps. Who makes a spectacular Christmas light display every year.
#2 Hang wreaths everywhere
Wreaths are the most beautiful part of Christmas and they should be hung on everything that anything can be hung on. You can learn to make your own and make them as unique as you want. You can add ornaments to them. Place bows on the bottoms, around them or on the top. You can even put glitter, fake snow or some people even place nuts and fruit on theirs. If you want to spread the word, start to give them away. Or if you want to make some money, sell them.
#3 Garland
You can use tinsel or the pine type but garland is perfect to decorate with. You can wrap it just about anywhere and it can be seen during the day and night. No need for lights on it. Tinsel especially is great for the nighttime when you use candles around it because the flame flickers off of it.

#4 Candles
Speaking of candles, get a ton of them. They are the best replacement for Christmas lights you can use. That is the true magic of Christmas right there. Why do you think white Christmas lights are so popular? It’s because it’s basically the candle idea.
Just be careful with your candles. You don’t need to worry about fire as long as you don’t leave the candle unattended. Why would you leave it unattended. Isn’t the benefit of having the candle to give you something beautiful to admire? Well, if you aren’t around then the benefit of it doesn’t matter.
#5 Homemade decorations
If you have kids, then you have an unlimited amount of Christmas decorations. Get out all the craft supplies and tell them that it’s time to make the house look pretty for Christmas. Take the construction paper and cut it into strips, roll them and intertwine them to make garland. Cut out some reindeers and Santas to have them color and decorate them to hand around the house. You can even do the traditional popcorn garland for your tree.
People have been celebrating the Christmas holiday for centuries and they didn’t rely on the thousands of lights that we do now. Go back to the simpler times in life when we took pleasure in way we have around our home and gardens. It’s being together at Christmas that matters. It’s not how many lights and decorations we can pin up on our house or how many it will take to blackout the entire country.
